Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!
I foolishly forgot to wear any green this morning when I got ready. As I walked into the 2nd grade classroom where I'm doing some observation hours, I immediately realized my mistake. One boy, David, noticed right away that I was without any green. His eyes got really big and he started turning around to his friends saying, "Guys, Miss Libby isn't wearing green! We can pinch her!" Obviously, I get no respect from these kids. I solved the problem by using the Ellison cutter in the teacher's workroom to make a green-construction-paper-shamrock, and taping it on my shirt.
In other news: I taught them a lesson this morning on Adverbs. When the teacher told the class, "Miss Libby is going to teach you a lesson now, so I want you to all give her your full attention," they all started clapping for me as I walked to the front! It was pretty funny. Mrs. Ramos said, "Hey, how come you never clap for me?!"
The lesson itself went fairly well, I'd say. By the end, they seemed to have a pretty basic grasp of what an adverb is and how it can be used. There was still some confusion, and it was kind of hard for several of the students, but this was the first lesson they've ever had on adverbs so it was a new concept for them. It's comforting to know that they're going to get lots of practice with adverbs in the next couple of years. It's not as though I have to teach them everything about adverbs in my 35 minute lesson, and if they don't get it, I've ruined them for life. Mrs. Ramos said that she thought it was a good lesson and that it went well. So that was nice to hear.
