I learned I am illiterate in regard to California history today.

The creators of West Wing gave California's past a nod by naming the president in their show "Jed Bartlet." Puzzled? So would I be! I mean, I watched the show and I learned California history in elementary school, but I still didn't get it. It's kind of embarrassing.

Perhaps you didn't know that California's flag was supposed to have a pear on it?
