This is a funny article via the Inland County Birds listserve (San Bernadino, Riverside and Imperial Counties).
Birds Invade Redlands Home
http://www.redlandsdailyfacts.com/ci_9146474
Basically, some migrating Vaux's Swifts (the article incorrectly names them Chimney Swifts- almost identical relatives restricted to the eastern United States) went down a chimney into someone's home to roost. Hundreds of them. This understandably upset the home's residents. It's too bad they weren't home when the swifts arrived. It would have been like Hogwarts sending letters down the chimney in the first Harry Potter book. Totally freaky.
Although, wow, what a mess, it would have been neat to hold a Vaux's Swift. I've only ever seen them in flight. Also, I haven't seen any in our area this Spring. Last Spring a bunch of them were in a mixed flock of migrating swallows at Biola near the end of April. I'm not sure why I've missed them so far this year.

Saw my Vaux's Swifts tonight flying overhead during my walk home from work - maybe 30 or 40.
