New York!

We just got back from New York last week, and we're already falling behind on our blog posts about it. In fact, I can't help but noticing that we haven't posted on our blog for ages, which is too bad because it really is a convenient way to keep people updated and to keep a running record of our lives. Perhaps it is sufficient to say that there is enough going on that we can't find the time to post about it?

Anyway, we will post about New York. We arrived on Saturday evening, June 13th, and had to wait while they got the cargo door unstuck on our commuter jet. Rochester's airport is enormous, but as empty and quiet as a ghost town. Still, despite its apparent abandonment it is kept in good repair. Perhaps the city is planning on its fortunes turning around, and I do hope it will be bustling with people some day. Hopefully not as many people as LAX, though, as I wouldn't wish that misfortune on anybody.

Anyway, we spent the day's long twilight (I think the sun set around 9:30 at night) checking out the university, which was in general very attractive, before heading off to Bill and Becca's apartment for some yummy hamburgers. It was good to see them both again. After all, it had been since Christmas 2007 that we had last spent time together.

As we checked out their garden, we even saw a pair of Blue Jays and a scattering of Common Grackles in their yard - both lifers - and our first birds of the trip!

I don't know why you thought ROC was so big. It's always seemed quite small to me, about the size you expect for a regional airport. It is pretty quiet, though. Especially during lower travelled times.
