Yeah, not a whole lot of fear and trembling in my church. I like how enlivened people seem in the services at my church, but I also like the cathartic effect of a solemn and sad service. I think it is healthy to think that I and the rest of the world suck, cuz we do, and it is more uncomfortable to always be told to not feel guilty, etc. But, it is also good to get out of my comfort zone and do the whole hand raising thing, trying to be in tune with the Holy Spirit.

Ideally, I want a church that realistically describes both the deep tragedy and beauty in life, while relating it practically to how we live.

But, the big problem is that current Christian thinking tends to be too polarized and inorganic, at least in America. This polarization exists at the highest level: either be a liberal and smear all lines or be a conservative and make all lines stark and solid. The reality is that we live with within a web of tensions that are hard to either reconcile or dismiss.

That is pretty good. Although the misspelling of 'contrition' as 'contradiction' at first kind of confused me! I like the random interruptions from the Pentecostals. ;)
