Libby and I are heading up with my parents to Mammoth tomorrow. We're going to spend the weekend at the cabin.
The weather reports are saying that it should precipitate all weekend, but it sounds like it might be forebodingly warm. The snow level is at 8,000 feet and it's February! I hope it stays at that level, and we don't get rained on at all. That would not be any fun.
Libby and I'll try and remember to bring a camera with us for the trip, so we can record it for posterity. There isn't a whole lot of snow on the ground, so it won't be quite the winter wonderland that it normally is. All the same, it will be interesting to experience a new side of the mountain's winter.

Have a great trip! I have yet to go up to Mammoth to see what all the fuss is about. :)
I look forward to your pictures from your trip. Not many mountains where I am right now...
HEY! Your flikr link isn't working!
Was it really cold with the snow that low? It looks like you woud have coverage everywhere, but did you? How about on the lake? Was it entirely frozen and covered with snow or just frozen or not frozen at all?
I fixed the link.
The lake was covered with snow, as was almost everywhere (just by not very deep snow compared to other years). There were a few dry spots on the windy side of the lake, where the wind had blown it away. We actually never went on the lake because it was really windy when we skied up to the cabin, and then the new snow was too deep to bother breaking a trail through from then on.
Crowley was actually all frozen over as we drove by on our way up without any snow on it, but on the way down it had a covering of snow, too. All the basin lakes were covered in snow, and it never rained at all the whole trip for us. It snowed on us at the Ranger's Station as we were getting ready to go.
It was in the 30s almost the whole trip, though, and didn't get really cold at night.
