You can be completely certain that Autumn has arrived in Southern California when you step out of your door onto a layer of brown ash. The hills of Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernadino, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Orange Counties are all burning today, and it smells pretty bad in La Mirada.
Libby's back to work again today. She's feeling pretty good - just has a little congestion and a persistent cough. I had a little bout with some sort of stomach complaint, but it didn't last very long, and I'm definitely grateful!

Wierd to see it in the news and not to smell it. I'm glad I'm not riding my bike in it though. Coincidently, it's quite Southern-Californian today in Roch: upper 70s, dry, and breezy.

It's really bad today. I was just outside, and even with the sun at its apex, it is not completely bright - there is a haze over everything, and ash floating in the air.
you know, it's weird how this is working, because two or three of the fires are pretty near to me, but the sky is still a pretty, clear blue, no haze, but the closest one is only like 30 miles away.
I imagine it has to do with the way the wind is blowing. We're not very close to any fires, but we're East of the San Bernadino County and Orange County fires. It's also not windy here, so the smoke all settles down - it actually looked foggy yesterday evening because of the fire. There will little flurries of ash, too. Just like snow, only choking.
Libby's school is directly in the wind's path from the Santiago Fire, and it's really bad there. She's probably about 5 miles or maybe less from the actual fire.
And, I'm sure it's very bad in Highland! We're praying that the Slide Fire will be contained quickly.
