This past week in class my students and I were preparing for Easter. Each day, we would read the account of a different event in holy week, and discuss it. Here's part of a conversation that took place right after reading the account of the Last Supper:
Me: Question--How often does Jesus say we ought to take the Lord's Supper?
Student 1: On the 1st Sunday of every month!
Me: Actually, no.
Student 2: Every other Sunday!
Me: Nope.
This kind of thing went on for a little while with other suggestions being made, including "Every Sunday," "On the Sabbath," and "Never." Finally, a boy who must have looked back at the text said, "He never says how often to do it...just that we should."
Which is what I was getting at. But I didn't expect for it to take so long. :-)
